Down Below

Every single creature points you towards God.
Meister Eckhart

*Right: Champión, the wonder dog of Cecil.
Down below,
the children giggle
pleas from the South:
¡Mira!

Perched above,
the red robins and warblers
sing their obliviousness to
border crossings.

On Cecil,
corporate-owned rigs
haul cheap goods
disregarding signs.

Coming closer,
the shopping cart
jangles over potholes
talking to herself.

Slowly stalking,
the ice cream truck
drones on repeat
interrupting play.

Our friend
the west wind
whispers through the lush
green leaves.

Each time
the ambulance
sirens by
Champión howls a prayer.

In the distance
the old church
chimes a tune
yearning for Dawn.
