This Week In Photos

Ten times a day something happens to me like this - some strengthening throb of amazement - some good sweet empathic ping and swell. This is the first, the wildest and the wisest thing I know: that the soul exists and is built entirely out of attentiveness.

This week: a photo essay! Words are few, but feelings of joy loom large.

Here's our new friend, Sami, a senior at Berkley High School. She and her parents invited us over for a meal of papusas, catered by the nearby Salvadoran restaurant. Indeed, a new favorite.

We attended our first Noel Night celebration on Saturday. Tens of thousands flocked to Midtown to attend all sorts of events hosted by local businesses. We attended a performance of Rev. Billy Talen & The Stop Shopping Choir. Here we are after the show…

…and then we joined a group of activists marching through the streets, bearing witness to the epidemic of African-Americans killed by the police.

And, just south of 8 Mile, a water tower reminding everyone on the freeway that there will be no justice until everyone has access to water in their homes.
