We just attended a press conference (left) hosted by We The People of Detroit and The People's Water Board. Dr. Roger Colton, the lead economist pressing the city council to adopt water affordability, posited that "there is a business justification as well as a social justification." It is the in the best interest for low-income customers AND the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department for residents to pay no more than 2.5% of their income on water. It not only allows households surviving below the poverty level to keep their precious water on, it also brings in more revenue to the department.

This week, we hit the road to visit our friends in North Carolina and then a few nights of rest and relaxation on the edge of the Daniel Boone National Forest in Southern Kentucky.

Justin and Tiffany Ashworth moved to Durham five years ago so that Justin could attend Duke Divinity School's ThD program. Tiffany has been teaching in the Durham public school system--a huge challenge! 5 months ago, she gave birth to precious Jude. Here's what we wrote about them after we visited them two years ago, during our 75-day road trip through North America:

Our relationship with the Ashworths is special, perhaps one-of-a-kind. Their sincerity and commitment to a life of Christian discipleship is without equal. We have a natural affinity with them seasoned with a brand of vulnerability and authenticity that is about as rare as a losing season for the Duke basketball team. We often find ourselves in deep conversations about God, faith, church, political action and just about everything else that matters in Life. These are honest, disagreements offered freely. But in the midst of differences, the respect we have for each other is paramount. We always seem to learn from each other as Love and Laughter break through the levees of ideology and preconceived notions.

Over the weekend, we drove to Kentucky. Our good friend, Mike Smith, gifted us three nights in the little town of Corbin, a stone's throw from the Cumberland River and Cumberland Falls, the "Niagara of the South."
